Throughout the last couple of decades, life in the office world has changed dramatically. Looking at the three main advances in technology of the century, it is clear that office life would be unimaginable without all or any one of them now.
Setting aside the arrival of the personal computer itself, it is the internet which has transformed our world beyond belief. In addition to how it has influenced how we do business it has had a major impact on our communication methods, how we market ourselves and most importantly, how we research information. The internet has become an indispensable part of our everyday routine and each morning, upon arrival at our office desks, one of the first things we do is to switch on the computer. Many people have made their fortune by forging their career via the internet.
Email naturally evolved as a result of the internet. A multi paged document which is sent or arrives at the click of the mouse holds no surprises. This method of communication is a boon to society in a variety of ways. Electronic mail not only saves limitless amounts of time, but consider the number of trees left growing as we are printing so much less, however, the paperless office is still some way away. Such simple communication opportunities performed from our office chairs were previously hard to imagine.
